Sometimes the little things can really make a person’s day. I just found out that in our new building at work our new phones with have “Transfer” buttons to make it much simpler to transfer people from phone to phone. Why does this make me so happy? Because I totally and completely SUCK at the phone system at my company. I don’t know why, I’m pretty technologically savy, but these phones are my kryptonite. It took me a whole year to even sort of understand them and now I only survive on a post-it not with directions and a short prayer everytime I try to follow them.

I can only imagine the looks on your faces right now: “Wendy has posted!? I can’t believe it!”

Believe it, kids.

I haven’t completely dropped off the planet. In a few hours I’m heading to Chicago for the weekend to visit an old high school friend and catch the Leroy Jones Quintet play two sets at the Green Dolphin Street jazz club. There will also most likely be shopping, hopefully including a pilgrimage to the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue.

Scott called me a couple of days ago and suggested we might head out to IKEA. Yesterday he called to tell me that he does not own a can opener nor any sharp knives, and that while I won’t be able to enjoy any food from a can while visiting, I should sleep soundly knowing he won’t stab me to death while I sleep. Yep, that pretty much sums up Scott.

Beyond this weekend, I continue to work on preparations for the Alumni Band Banquet. Doogie and I are co-chairing, but since he’s in Spain for the next three weeks, I’m making all the decisions. Muhahhahah. See all of you alumni in October! Note: on the main page for the alumni band website with our picture, I wrote the introductory greeting. When I wrote it, it contained the phrase “back when the band was good.” You will notice that that phrase does not appear on that page, don’t you love censorship?

And finally from the Completely-Insane-Harry-related-things-I’m-Planning-Now dept. comes the announcement of my 4 day, 6 show, 1,900 mile road trip to see Harry with his quartet at the beginning of August. More details on that forthcoming…

Its jazzfest in Iowa City this weekend!!

I’ll be partaking in the festivities Saturday afternoon on through Sunday night.
