After staying up until about 1:30am reading the first few chapters of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I woke up late Saturday morning and quickly scurried off for my Saturday to visit Min and Jewels. Thanks to that newly upped 70mph speed limit on I-80, I actually got to Colfax early. Met Min’s husband, Bryan, as well as all the Bucklin-Williams brood of Inky, Emma, and Sadie (cat, dog, dog). Bryan was really nice, looking forward to getting to know him better and Emma gave me the seal of approval. Min’s 29th birthday had been the day before and she had been so thoughtful to save me a piece of the wonderful Champaign cake her mom always gets for her. One of Min’s big bday presents was an iPod and I am such a geek that I instantly went into tech support mode and helped her get it all loaded up with music. After that I showed her how to purl (I had taught her how to knit the last time she visited me) and then we headed out to West Des Moines for some shopping and lunch. Bryan got thrown right into the deep end of how much I talk and ramble. Min and I can barely shut up for a moment when we are together. Its like we’ve never been apart, which is really fun.
We headed to the Jordan Creek Shopping Monstrosity and quickly started stocking Min up on clothes for work. Those are the most easy to justify. *wink* We also hit the Apple Store post-haste to get iPod accessories. I got an armband for my iPod Shuffle that I had been eyeing online for awhile. Same price in the Apple Store as online and no shipping. Plus I got the fun Apple shopping bag. We had a nice late lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. mmmmMMMMMmmmm crab cakes. I mentioned to our waitress that the day before had been Min’s birthday and at the end of our meal she brought min a little ice cream sundae with a candle. She told us since her birthday was the day before they wouldn’t be singing. We were so heartbroken. Except not. We were actually delighted. After food there was more shopping. I got a great fun green skirt at Express, originally $128, for $20! That was my one great find. Four hours passed really quickly and we parted ways. Min headed home and I headed to Julie’s place.
When I arrived, her parents were still there from a visit to Julie that morning. Its always nice to see them both. Her mom, Diane, upon hearing that I was going to be visiting, made sure to bring a box of Nilla Wafers for me. When we were in high school, I always ate the Nilla Wafers that were in a jar at Julie’s house. Its funny the things that people remember. After the ‘rents had departed, Jewels and I ran to the grocery store to get supplies for our pasta dinner we were intending to have. Julie’s new guy Derrick came over and joined us for the meal. Julie wanted the old friend to meet the new guy and let us sniff each other out. *chuckle* After an enjoyable meal with good conversation, Derrick took me out for a short ride on his Harley. It was fun and I he brought me back alive, so I told Jewels she could keep him.
All in all, a good weekend with good friends.
