The difference between Iowa and Iowa State
We sold out all our games in record time this year. Basically, if you don’t have tickets for games and you aren’t in alumni band, you’re out of luck.
Contrast this to a commercial I just saw on tv for Iowa State football tickets (featuring the “We Don’t Have a Fight Song” song). They have to advertise? That’s just sad. And so very ISU.

In Iowa State’s defense (did I just write that?), there is a large billboard advertising Iowa football just south of 33rd avenue on I-380. It’s a very large Warren Holloway hauling in the TD pass in at the end of the Capital One Citrus Bowl and the tagline is “Catch Iowa Football this fall” or something equally cheesy. Last night I saw it as I was driving home and thought to myself, “why is the athletic department advertising that people should come to Iowa City to watch football when the tickets to participate in said activity are all sold out.”
Actually, my thought was more like, “Hm. Weird.”
That is funny.
Which reminds me at the end of the ISU commercial (which I guess I was mostly amused at since it was running on our WB20 channel that they would advertise for ISU here), there is a ISU guy sitting in the Jack Trice place with his foam finger all “are you ready? I am!” and then they pan back and its this empty stadium. All I could think was, “that looks about right.”
The caption should have been “this was filmed during the 2004 Iowa State/Mizzou game”. I couldn’t believe that they were playing a game that would have given them a berth into the Big XII title game and there were like 12,000 fans there. I know it was cold and all, but it was cold when we played Wisky. We just drank more to counterbalance it!

So ISU has never been great at football, but the school was great. I have many fantastic memories of going to school there. Even if they did lose, I loved going to the games. I could often hear them from my house, which was a few miles away. I understand rivalry though.
