The characters in some of my favorite mystery series, The Cat Who… or Mrs. Murphy Mysteries, become like old friends after years of visiting them through books. I think I have made a new book friend and her name is Stephanie Plum. It is fitting that we were introduced through our mutual friend, TracyA, who has introduced me to several other good book friends in the past year.
This book is the first in at least ten Stephanie Plum books and had me laughing a lot and considering a new career as a bounty hunter at least three times. I’m way too amused by the story being set in Trenton, NJ. A place I’ve never been to, but I once had a voice mail describing it as the “home of the old school mafia.” The character’s last name being “Plum” has also colored my invisioning of her as a lot of my family has the last name of Plum and I picture Stephanie as this amalgamation of several of my cousins.
I also love her pet hamster which she describes as “the small, silent type.” Its the little things that made this book a fun gem.
