I bought this right after seeing Serenity for the second time, to tide me over until seeing it for the third and fourth times. As a movie tie-in book goes, its quite good. The first 30 pages or so are a long interview with Joss Whedon about the making of the movie/creative process as well as some nice graphic pages explaining the history of the universe that the characters live in. The rest of the book is the shooting script for the film. It includes several small nice scenes that were cut from the final release. They mostly flesh out the backstory/catch us up with Inara and Book, as well as give us a few little tidbits between the other characters. I think these will be extras as deleted scenes in the dvd release (December 20!). I also enjoyed that they had phonetic spellings of the Chinese phrases used as well as the rough English translations. Its not necessary to know what they are saying when they use Chinese. I think its more fun to just insert your own thoughts, but some of them are a bit amusing. And some mundane things just sound cooler in Chinese.

Looks interesting. I might look into that after I get to see the movie (c’mon netflix!)

In related news, did you get my e-mail about the book “Finding Serenity”, a collection of essays about Firefly including one by Jewel Staite? I might have had the wrong gmail address. Curious to know what you think of it if you’ve read it.
