Most of my readers will know that I am a frequent poster on the forum on connick.com, the Harry Connick, Jr. fan site. I joined the group on Halloween 2001. Its been a blessing and a curse, but I have met or come to know some great people because of it. Today I am reminded of three of those people.
Lisa: Today is her and Mike’s 11th anniversary. Congrats you crazy kids. Lisa has become one of my closest friends over the past two or three years. We talk all the time even though we don’t see each other more than a couple times a year. We share a love of good music, sparkly things, and being sane and realistic people. I’m really ooking forward to seeing her at Mardi Gras this year (as well and Mike and TracyA!)
Jay: Jay is a connick.com poster who I’ve never met, so he belongs over in the “Not Yet Proven” listing to the right, but he is one amazing guy. On Tuesday of this week, he donated one of his kidneys to his friend Brian. A truly inspirational act that did inspire me, in part, to join the National Bone Marrow Registry.
The third person, Brian O’Neill, was the bass trombone player in my favorite band, Bonerama which I’ve seen nearly a dozen times. I have to say “was” because this morning I learned that Brian died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday or early this morning. I’m still in shock about this. It seems very unreal still. I just saw Brian on the saturday of Thanksgiving weekend in St. Louis with the Bones. We talked about how his family had had thanksgiving all together in New Orleans and how things were improving little by little. He was always a friendly guy who had a hug for you and time to chat every time you saw him. He was also an amazing musician and great friend to many and my heart breaks for his family and for the rest of the members of Bonerama.
Rest in peace, Brian. You will be missed.
