Brain: Something we’ve wanted to forever (besides take over the world), buy ‘Pinky & The Brain‘ on DVD!!
And also, say “Hellooooooooooo, Nurse!” to ‘Animaniacs‘ on DVD the same day!
I feel like I woke up and spun the Wheel of Morality and won something great. The P&B is Vol. 1 and will be 4 discs with 22 episodes while the Animaniacs will also be Vol. 1 but will be 5 discs with 25 episodes!

My favorite tv day of the year has come and gone (and gone and gone) and I came away mostly happy with the outcome. I completed my yearly quest to see all the Best Picture nominees just hours before the awards were handed out when I saw Capote on Sunday afternoon. I managed to see all the Best Actor nominee performances as well and I saw all the performances that won for the acting awards.
Let’s get right to it:
Best Picture Winner: Crash
This totally delighted me. I saw Crash in the theater way back last April with Christopher. He wanted to see it, I had barely heard of it and was ambivalent to seeing it in the theater at the time. But every now and again, Christopher shows good judgement of films and picks a winner. He redeemed himself from when we suffered through Friday Night Lights. As per usual, I digress. Anyway, Crash just blew me away. In a nutshell if you haven’t seen it, (and if that is the case, you should remedy that situation quickly) its a bunch of intertwining storylines and characters dealing with racism in the setting of Los Angeles over a period of so many hours. There are a lot of people in this movie: Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock (playing totally against type in one of her best roles ever), Matt Dillon, Thandie Newton, Ryan Phillipe, and the list goes on. A true ensemble cast picture. Its a movie that leaves you stunned, shocked, and thinking about the prejudices that we all have to some extent, even if we don’t notice or acknowledge them on any regular basis. To me it was the best picture because I saw it going on a year ago and I’m still talking about it and a lot of other people who’ve seen it are still talking about it too.
[and now three weeks have passed and I have to finish this and post it before it eats my brain. mmmm. brains.]
Let me ’splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.*
Crash winning = good.
Jon Stewart hosting = funny.
Wendy = thinks too much.
Amazingly, other things have happened in my life and the world since I started this post… and i’ll finally get to those soon.
*bonus points to whoever names the source of that line first…

Mac is enjoying the lovely pre-spring weather. Its the first time I’ve had my bedroom window open since I moved. The weather is really glorious today, in the low 70’s with a mix of sun and clouds. But I’m not thinking this is a real start of spring or anything. Spring isn’t for another twelve days or so and the forecast has us back down in the 30’s for highs by Monday. But its still a nice preview of things to come, especially after the wonderful weather we had in NOLA.
The nice weather did help motivate me to reorganize my stash of stuff in the garage and basement space. I opened up the garage door and took in the lovely fresh air as I assembled a new shelf unit and rearranged all my plastic containers. The reorganization left me with a lot of empty cardboard boxes, so I treated myself and went and recycled them all. How I love recycling. I also went downtown Iowa City to finally get a library card and I walked around to a used bookstore and grabbed a bagel from Bruegger’s. On the way there and back, everywhere I looked people were out enjoying the lovely Saturday weather. Many dogs were being walked, many joggers enjoying not being bundled like eskimos, lots and lots of convertible tops down and motorcycles getting gased up, and I even saw a group of four adults standing in a circle in a grassy space helping a little girl learn to walk by going back and forth between them, very cute.
Its a rather quiet weekend that I am enjoying. Watched Iowa win last night and this afternoon in the Big Ten Conference tournament. I’ll be watching the final tomorrow. Go Hawks. May get to a movie or two this evening with D and possibly Carly. I’d like to see Failure to Launch and Sixteen Blocks. Still need to finish my post-Oscars post. Not that any of you care anymore, but I still need to empty the 2005 cinema thoughts from my head before I get too far into 2006. I’m also working on knitting again as I simply must finish this baby blanket before the baby it is intended for turns one…
Hope the weather is lovely wherever you are today.
