My view on a Saturday

081906_12581.jpg

Isn’t it lovely? I’ve been at work since 10am this morning. I borrowed another flat-screen monitor from an unused cube until someone needs it. I figured I was owed that much for spending my weekend here alone. I’m working on this never-ending project that has to come to a certain point of finishing ASAP. For those of you who’ve ever heard me complain about it, its that certain form with the thousands of lines of bad code that I’ve been holding together with paper clips and string for years. I’m overhauling it but not as completely as it needs to be. More like I’m upgrading it to duct tape or possibly liquid nails for the time being. Someday it will no longer be my responsibility. But for now, I carry on because even though its a pretty much thankless part of my job as far as my work being truly appreciated for the level of revenue it maintains, I know there are hundreds of thousands of people at home and at school that need to use this form in a way that can honestly impact their futures. Ok, enough philosophizing about my work… back to it.

Bunnies of the Lost Ark

Maybe Steven and George should just give up on Indy 4 as a feature length film and just turn over creative control to 30 Second Bunnies Theater:

Early morning happiness

While it kind of sucked that someone had to come in by 6am this morning to post the National Data Release information at work, I’m a tiny bit glad I volunteered (I live the closest of anyone) so I could see this fabulous information as soon as possible this morning:

from USA Today:
Harry Connick, Jr. will donate all proceeds from his single All These People, out Aug. 29, to New Orleans Habitat Musicians’ Village. The New Orleans native was inspired to write the song after seeing the suffering and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The song, a duet he recorded with gospel singer Kim Burrell, is the first from Connick’s forthcoming New Orleans big-band album, Oh My Nola, out this fall.

A new big band album. Be still my beating heart! Rumors continue to swirl of a spring tour. That’d be just about perfect.
Although I’d truly love to go to NOLA in a few weeks for the Bonerama CD recording at Tips, I’ve come to the point where I have to stop just doing everything I want and be more responsible. *sigh* So I’ll wait very impatiently until the spring and try to be very good until then.

Is this heaven?

No, its just me, posting my pictures from the Field of Dreams.

Still to come: text and video!

They kept it and he came back…

I’m really tired today, but yesterday at the Netflix Rolling Roadshow screening of Field of Dreams at the Field of Dreams was a really amazing cinematic experience. Kevin Costner’s appearance just added to the entertainment of the day. Full wrap-up and pictures coming up, but here’s a taste of some of the fun of the event:

I hate that I suck

I must confess: I didn’t ride my bike to work today.

I got up late and it looked like it might rain, so I drove. I know its stupid, but I just feel so guilty about it. Honestly, like I’m disappointing every person who was supportive yesterday. I hate having these grand plans for getting in shape and eating better that I never sustain for more than a day or two each week. I want to be a better person. I want to be healthier. I want to be able to buy clothes that fit me properly without experiencing emotional trauma. I want to be more determined and actually accomplish things. I don’t know why I can’t.

David Duchovny, why won’t you love me?

Today is David’s 46th birthday. In celebration, I give you my favorite episode of the ‘Celebrity Jeopardy’ skits from SNL where he does a great Jeff Goldblum impression. Its got great lines and I never cease to laugh: “leather glove”, “days of yore”. *chuckle*

Makes me want to dig out some pictures of my past X-Files tribute walls/cubes and scan them… maybe tonight.

I made it

to work. On my bike. Can I go home and take a nap now?

Ok. So it wasn’t that bad. I made it all the way here in 21 minutes without getting off the bike at all. My overall speed was lower than the first time I made the ride here but I had all my crap for work; change of clothes, bottles of water, breakfast smoothie, lunch bits, book to return to library afterwork, ect. Which probably accounted for another 8-10 pounds of weight on my bike and cut down on my aerodynamic flow a bit.

I shake my head at myself. I bought my bike almost 3 months ago so I could ride to work all summer. Oh well. Need to get rid of those regrets and just keep on biking. I’ve gotten to the point of no return with my weight gain. I have to face it head on and really deal with it. I’d like to go straight from work to the gym, but I’ll cross that road when I come to it. To work and back everyday this week may be enough to start with.

What time is it there?

I’m currently on hold with a web hosting company in Australia… you are next to be answered the female voice tells me over and over.

And I got answered… why does “answered” seem like the incorrect use of a verb to me? Is it being used as a verb? Oh my English SUCKS. *chuckle*

Of course after all that, turns out I called the wrong company to get the information I needed. Whoops. Oh well. Not my dime. At least the guy was actually Australian with the proper accent. When I called the right company the lady was obviously from India… no offense to India, but when one calls Australia, I want the accent!
