Spiderman 3 was so bad it nearly killed me

I am alive.

I know Diane and a few others wondered if I had dropped off the planet. I went to see Spiderman 3 on the Friday it opened and while I was in the theater, bored out of my mind by the bad acting and ridiculous storyline and badly formed characters, I started coughing. The coughing progressed to a sore throat, chills, body pain, and the like and then after another four or five days, became a really bad chest cold which I really only got over this weekend, though I do still have some lingering phlegm. Joy!

Due to the illness, I have done little of nothing for the last two weeks beyond watch TV (at least it was sweeps time), DVDs (thanks Netflix) and read books. The main activity that I have ignored is unpacking since I moved. Which probably didn’t really help my mental state much. I had unpacked all my books and DVDs and clothes, but that was it. Until this weekend, pretty much most of my kitchen was still in plastic containers and boxes.

Friday night I spent the evening taking all the kitchen stuff out of whatever it was packed in and taking an inventory. When I lived with Rachel, she already had a fully-stocked kitchen, so the majority of my kitchen items had remained packed away for a year and a half. I seemed to have lost things along the way and accumulated other, less useful, items. For instance, I have no idea why I have five pastry brushes, but not a single wooden spoon. Puzzling.

My current kitchen is small and lacks in counter space a bit so by the end of Friday night I had all the counters and half the floor in the kitchen area covered with all the stuff I had unpacked. Great. Saturday morning I made a big master list of the things I needed to replace and an idea of what additional storage I needed to purchase to put everything away.

I grabbed some lunch and some Whitey’s downtown with the Steeles, and hit the kitchen store for a few Alton Brown prescribed items. (Its hard to find a decent wooden spoon.) Then I headed to Coralville and hit the big stores: Lowes, Target, and Wal-Mart. It was five hours of serious shopping. Once I got back to my place and carried it all inside and dropped it in the middle of the floor, I was exhausted. Instead of put anything away, I decided I’d rather go check the air in my bike tires and ride over to Jerry & Sara’s place. It took me a few minutes to remember how the valves on the tires worked and I managed to let all the air out of my front tire before I figured it out. Once I got the pressure right in both tires I headed out. It took me about 25 minutes to get to their place from mine, with only walking up one hill. Not too bad. Spent a couple of hours at the Steele house, enjoyed some pasta and some movie clips and then headed home, a different, slightly less hilly way and managed to not have to walk my bike.

Sunday I was completely wiped out from the biking and the shopping. I did manage to put together another shelving unit for my kitchen and start on organizing it, but I never got as far as I hoped. Oh well, no real rush, but I need to get my place together because I’m sick of looking at plastic containers and not knowing where half my stuff is.

So that’s where I’ve been lately, not overly exciting.
