Its been awhile since I gushed about my Bonerama boys, but even better than my gushing is getting a chance to see them live right here in Iowa City and hear what it is I’m often willing to drive/fly hours and hours to hear.

The band is described as “New Orleans brass funk rock” which again, kind of has to just be experienced. But its a show that can give you ‘I’ll Fly Away’ at one moment,’Whipping Post’ the next, and then turn around and give you an original song based on a melody by Beethoven. Seriously. If you appreciate real music coming from real musicians, you can’t help but love these guys.

Mark, Craig, Matt, Steve, Rick, Bert, and Eric are great guys who I hope more people get the chance to hear and meet. They’ve graciously put up with me following them all over the country for the last four years.

I’ll gush again tomorrow. For now, I’ll leave you with this piece that ran on CNN right after Katrina hit. The music is surviving and New Orleans is coming back, but I want to remind everyone that we all still need to support the efforts to keep the music alive and keep rebuilding the gulf coast!
